Strong month for wages
After three months of dramatic rises and falls, salaries edged up by just 0.16 per cent in April, but reached at their second highest level in the past five years, according to the latest Travel Salary Index from C&M Travel Recruitment and C&M Executive Recruitment which surveyed all new vacancies registered with the companies during the month.
April’s figure of £26,952 meant that the average new job in travel is now paying more than three per cent more than in the same month last year.
Salaries for standard travel jobs (those paying up to £40,000) fell by 3.93 per cent last month to stand at £24,151 after reaching a record high in March, but April’s figure was still the third highest since the index began and remains 4.81 per cent up from April 2017.
Candidate numbers rise year-on-year
It was another strong month for candidate registrations with a 36 per cent jump from April 2017, although there was a 12 per cent dip from last month’s near record figure. It was also a steady month for vacancy numbers with a five per cent increase from last April but a nine per cent fall from March 2018.
Speaking about the figures, Barbara Kolosinska, Director at C&M Travel Recruitment and C&M Executive Recruitment, said: “After a very volatile first quarter of 2018, it comes as something of a relief to have a more stable month – especially one that sees salaries edging up to stand at their second highest point in the past five years.
“New candidate and vacancy numbers are also both up from last April, so there is clearly momentum in the market and we appear to be very well placed as we enter the start of the summer period.”
All figures are drawn from the salaries of the month’s new vacancies advertised with C&M Travel Recruitment and C&M Executive Recruitment.
C&M Travel Recruitment was established in 1998 and is the largest and most successful specialist travel recruitment company in the UK.
