"What are you going to do when you leave college next month?"
"I don't know yet mum, why?"
"Why don't you look at being a travel agent? I can see you in a Thomas Cook uniform."
And so my story began........
Fresh out of college with A levels in Psychology, Business Studies and Art & Design (everything a travel agent needs, right?!), I got a job with Thomas Cook. I loved searching for holidays, chatting with customers and making their holiday experience start with the booking not when they got to resort. But after a couple of years I felt I wanted to take my career in travel in a different direction, so I moved into the world of Business Travel with Amex.
I couldn't have asked for a better introduction into this sector of our industry. It was so varied - one minute you were making a Manchester to Paris reservation, the next you were booking a group of 40 passengers from Heathrow to Windhoek! I loved Business Travel and all its intricacies. Knowing that CEOs, Directors, Managers and employees of global corporate companies could do business and 'seal the deal' because they relied on me and my experience to get them around the world and back in time for meetings and agendas was very satisfying indeed!
My 14 years in Business Travel with some of the leading travel management companies in the world came to an end due to redundancy, but as the saying goes, every cloud has a silver lining. So here I am starting a new chapter in travel, but this time in travel recruitment with C&M and I'm rapidly finding out what a great company it is too - especially the team in Manchester!
Changing your job can greatly impact your personal life and being part of that is a privilege, so it's massively important to us that we help you get it right and we are all passionate about doing just that!
Year started in travel / recruitment: 1998
Favourite destination: New York or Barcelona, but for total relaxation it would have to be the Greek Islands
