Positive month for travel jobseekers
The number of new jobseekers searching for travel roles increased by 18 per cent in October to reach its highest level in three months, according to the latest figures from C&M Travel Recruitment.
Compared to previous years, October's total was down by 19 per cent from the same month last year, up by eight per cent from October 2021, up by 128 per cent from October 2020 (mid-pandemic) and down by 21 per cent from October 2019.
There was also a rise in the number of candidates being placed in new jobs in the travel industry, with a seven per cent increase from September. However, October's total was down by a steep 63 per cent from the same month in 2022's record-setting year.
Vacancies slip
New vacancies fell back in October by nine per cent from September to reach their lowest point in six months. Last month's figure was also down by 56 per cent from October 2022.
Speaking about the stats, Barbara Kolosinska, Managing Director at C&M Travel Recruitment, said: "The last time candidates and placements both increased in the same month was back in May, so there are lots of positives to take from these figures. In particular, it's great to see a healthy rise in new jobseekers.
"As we enter the start of winter, we're unlikely to see a big increase in recruitment until the new year. But January is always one of the very busiest months for recruitment with a much-increased level of competition for the best candidates - meaning there are real opportunities out there right now to take advantage of the quieter market and secure great talent in time for the peak season."
