Travel Reservations Jobs can be based within a variety of travel companies from tour operators to car hire businesses to cruise companies. Reservation Consultants, or Reservation Agents as they are sometimes called, tend not to be customer facing but will be on the telephone daily to customers booking all of their travel requirements from initial enquiry through to closing the sale. To work in reservations you must have an excellent telephone manner and be able to meet and exceed reservation sales targets. An Airline Reservations Consultant is a Reservations Consultant who books flights for customers whether domestic, European or worldwide. You will also be required to deal with client changes and customer service issues. You are generally required to have a good knowledge of a CRS, either Galileo, Amadeus, Worldspan or Sabre as well as a knowledge of nett and published fares.
A Cruise Consultant is a Reservations Consultant who specialises in cruise bookings. You will be booking worldwide and European cruise holidays and this may also involve booking flights to and from the cruise departure points. You will also book day tours, excursions, hotels and other ancillary products if required. Cruising product knowledge is an advantage for this role.
Worldwide Consultants are responsible for making reservations for customers worldwide. You must have excellent worldwide knowledge in order to create tailor-made itineraries and book worldwide travel. You must have strong worldwide product knowledge as well as experience in a CRS and knowledge of nett and published fares.
A Hotels Consultant is a Reservations Consultant who specialises in booking hotels and accommodation throughout the world. You will be expected to make destination recommendations and have good worldwide product knowledge. You will liaise with hotels for any special requests that the customers have as well as deal with cancellations and amendments.
The Reservations Manager is responsible for the team of Reservation Consultants or Reservations Agents. You will be responsible overall for motivating and driving forward the sales team and supervisors. You will ensure that the team meets and exceeds their sales targets and that customer service levels are maintained at all times. You will also be responsible for rotas, appraisals and the recruitment of new staff as well as liaising with internal departments. You must be able to manage a large workload, and have team leader or supervisory experience in a travel reservations environment and have excellent communication skills.
