Tomorrow's Travel Leaders: 30 Under 30: Sarah Allard
In collaboration with TTG Digital, the ITT and Guoman Hotels, C&M Travel Recruitment set out to discover the 30 most inspiring and dynamic people in the travel industry aged 30 years and younger - the 30 Under 30.
Here we profile Sarah Allard, director of Lost Earth Adventures.
Q: Why did you want to get involved in the travel industry?
A: "Travel has been my passion from the moment I set off on a gap year over a decade ago. I can still remember the sensation of getting off the plane for the first time, being immersed in the frenetic energy of Bangkok and being mesmerised by the sensation of discovering something so new and exciting. I have also been fortunate to have travelled and lived all over Canada (where I was born and grew up), falling in love with the great outdoors - truly an adventure playground!
"In whatever you choose to do in life, I think you must be passionate about it, which is why getting involved in the travel industry just seemed second nature to me."
Q: Why did you choose to set up Lost Earth Adventures?
A: "I am incredibly passionate about travel and the rewards you get from going on such adventures, whether it is a two-week small group adventure tour or a six-month solo backpacking trip. I have an insatiable desire to discover new places and landscapes, be immersed in different cultures, and to actively get out and play outside (mountain biking, rafting, climbing etc) and make the most of this small rock we live on.
"I have never been a beach holidayer and prefer to spend my time exploring, rather than drinking Mai Tais on the beach. My partner, Richard Goodey and I sought out to create a company that shared the same mentality and ethos of travel as we did and thought that we could offer something unique to the market place that no one else was offering - thus Lost Earth Adventures was born!
"Getting the opportunity to share our knowledge, expertise and passion for the places we visit to others and seeing how it can be life changing for many of our clients makes for an extremely rewarding job!"
Q: How does it feel to be in the final 30 of Tomorrow's Travel Leaders?
A: "It's an incredible honour to be recognised and to be held in the same regard as the 29 others whom share this with me. Hearing their stories of success is truly inspiring. When you hear of what the others have achieved in such a short period, it's simply astonishing and motivating.
"I put my heart and soul into my business and it's humbling to see that others have recognised this. I was very surprised to be nominated, and even more surprised to have been selected as one of the final 30!"
Q: Has the recognition had any impact on your career?
A: "From my peers there has been kudos and recognition, and I certainly think there has been a positive benefit to being recognised. If anything, it has got me motivated and even more excited for the future!"
Q: What advice do you have for other young people looking to further their career in the travel industry?
A: "Get out there and do what you love. Don't be afraid to try, learn everything you can, work hard and get excited, but most of all, be passionate and the rest will fall into place."
