Tomorrow's Travel Leaders: 30 Under 30: Michelle Taft
In collaboration with TTG Digital, the ITT and Guoman Hotels, C&M Travel Recruitment set out to discover the 30 most inspiring and dynamic people in the travel industry aged 30 years and younger - the 30 Under 30.
Here we profile Michelle Taft, head of bids and marketing at Click Travel.
Q: What advice do you have for other young people looking to make their mark in the travel industry?
A: "Work hard and care about what you do. Even if you start right at the bottom of the ladder, I firmly believe that with the right work ethic, ambition and desire to succeed there is nothing to stop you.
"Be confident but don't be afraid to listen and learn from other people. Embrace challenges and take a few risks. You may make some mistakes along the way - but they will benefit you in the future if you accept and learn from them."
Q: Why did you want to get involved in the travel industry?
A: "I'd like to say it's because of my love of travelling but to be honest, whilst I enjoy going on holiday, I didn't plan a career in travel. I got a part-time job at Thomas Cook whilst studying and things went from there. I quickly decided I wanted to work on the corporate side of things, so took a job in business travel and decided I would work my way up and that's what happened!"
Q: How does it feel to be in the final 30 of Tomorrow's Travel Leaders?
A: "It's obviously brilliant to receive the recognition and it's great to be in the company of some inspiring entrepreneurs and young achievers."
Q: Were you surprised to be nominated?
A: "Yes, as I work in business travel it's almost an industry on its own, so to be picked as one of the final 30 across the entire UK travel industry is a great achievement."
Q: Has the recognition had any impact on your business or career?
A: "It has certainly raised my profile within the industry and it's been great to network with the other 29, as well as others who have been involved with the initiative."
