UK 'top for eco-breaks'
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs.Britain is the most popular destination for those on the search for an environmentally-friendly holiday, it has been reported.
Research carried out by responsibletravel.com indicates that the country became the most sought-after location for such a break during the first six months of this year.
Over the course of the first half of 2008, Britain witnessed a 95 per cent increase in bookings and in the process became more popular than countries such as Thailand, Egypt and Italy.
And in news that might be of interest to travel agents, Justin Francis, founder of the site, claimed that the increase in these breaks is due to Britons choosing not go on two overseas holidays this year but rather choose to go abroad once and also have a domestic vacation.
Meanwhile, a recent study by Grand UK Holidays indicated that an increasing number of travellers over the age of 55 are choosing to stay within Britain for their summer holiday.
