Scottish travel companies 'urged to focus on sustainable tourism'
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs.Those with travel industry jobs in Scotland are being encouraged to become more environmentally-friendly, it has been revealed.
Going Green, a new initiative launched by VisitScotland, sees such organisations given guidance on how to improve their efforts at implementing sustainable working practices, whether this relates to reducing their levels of waste or by saving energy.
Jim Mather, minister for tourism, said: "Visitors are increasingly keen to reduce their impact on the environment while enjoying Scotland and this initiative puts Scotland firmly on track in assuring them about our determination to tackle climate change."
It was stated that those who join this initiative will be able to become a member of the Green Tourism Business Scheme in the space of two years or less.
Philip Riddle, chief executive for VisitScotland, reported that the country is looking to become one of the most popular destinations for sustainable tourism throughout Europe.
Last month, Andy Cooper, head of business development for the Association of British Travel Agents, reported that those in the travel industry should work together to provide sustainable and responsible tourism.
