Russia 'on the up' as tourism destination
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs.Russia is becoming an increasingly sought-after location for a holiday, it has been reported.
In research released by UK-based website destinationRussia, it was revealed that bookings for breaks in the country have increased by some 45 per cent over the last three years.
Overall, St Petersburg was said to be the most sought-after city, as it accounts for more than half (57 per cent) of the firm's bookings.
And in news that might be of interest to those with jobs in the travel industry, it was shown that Russia is rising in popularity among younger people.
Martin Chiazza, founder of destinationRussia, said: "As the figures show, Russia is growing rapidly as a tourist destination which we are extremely pleased about."
He went on to report that although the country had previously only mainly attracted business travellers, more visitors are making their way to Russia for leisure purposes to take in sights such as St Isaac's Cathedral in St Petersburg and the Kremlin building in Moscow.
In other news, Chris Marais, editor of Total Gambler, stated last month that Las Vegas will continue to be the most popular holiday destination for UK gambling enthusiasts.
