Rise noted in Brits travelling to S Africa
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs.An increasing number of Britons are travelling to South Africa, it has been reported.
In figures released by South African Tourism, it was indicated that some 29,294 UK tourists went to the country over the course of last May.
While such news may already be of interest to those with travel agent jobs, it was suggested that there could be further growth in tourism levels as the African nation prepares to host the 2010 football World Cup.
Lebohang Mokhesi, UK manager for South African Tourism, claimed that "with less than two years to go before we welcome the world to our wonderful country, it's encouraging to see the visitor numbers continue to grow".
It was reported that some £1.3 billion is to be spent on transport infrastructure in South Africa ahead of the football tournament.
Furthermore, it was hoped that as England, Wales and other national football teams have recently begun their quest to qualify for the competition, more Britons could consider visiting South Africa.
Ahead of last May's Champions League match between Manchester United and Chelsea it was reported that travel agents found themselves under increasing levels of demand as fans sought transport and accommodation to Moscow - the location of the final.
