Older Brits 'are adventurous travellers'
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs.Older Britons are becoming increasingly adventurous in their holiday choices, it has been revealed.
According to Derek Moore, chairman for the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO), such consumers are now looking beyond just going on a domestic break or to a traditional foreign holiday destination such as Spain, France or Ireland.
Now he claimed that these holidaymakers are expanding their horizons to the southern hemisphere as the likes of New Zealand, South Africa and Australia are becoming more sought-after, in news that might be of interest to those with jobs in the travel industry.
He added that south-east Asia and the Middle East, as well as various countries in northern Africa - such as Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco - are currently popular at this time of year.
The AITO chairman reported that older people begin to travel more often because they have more disposable income following the growing up of their children.
Meanwhile, recent research by Cater Allen has shown that more than a fifth of Brits are looking to go on holiday to Australasia, with nine per cent wanting to go on a break to Asia.
