More people looking to foreign weddings
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs.An increasing number of Britons are attending overseas weddings, it has been reported.
In research carried out by TickBox on the behalf of Travelex and Thomas Cook, it was indicated that about one in ten people are set to go abroad to attend a wedding ceremony over the next 12 months.
It was also revealed that just under two-thirds (60 per cent) of the overseas weddings that respondents have been invited to will take place in Europe, with 15 per cent happening in the United States.
Commenting on the figures, Mark Nancarrow, managing director of financial services at Thomas Cook, said: "In the last few years, we've seen a steady increase in demand for weddings abroad."
He claimed this was because couples are looking to make sure they have good weather on their special day.
And in news that could also be of interest to travel agents, it was reported that after the wedding is over people are looking to extend the amount of time which they have away.
Mr Nancarrow added: "Guests also like to take advantage of the trip abroad by adding a few days on for an extra holiday."
Research released by MSC Cruises in March, meanwhile, indicated 38 per cent of married couples book their honeymoon with those with travel agent jobs at a high street company, while a quarter purchase the break via telephone.
