Malaysian tourism 'could remain robust'
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs.Overseas travel could remain strong for many Malaysians, according to the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents.
In news that may be of interest to individuals working in the travel industry, the Associated Press reports that despite a ten per cent increase in the cost of air travel - mainly due to increases in fuel surcharges - more and more consumers are choosing short-haul flights to travel within Asia.
Ngiam Foon, association president, told reporters: "Malaysians have got bitten by the travel bug long ago and have made travel a part of their lifestyle. People will still travel but they will watch their wallet a little bit more."
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office notes that around 250,000 Brits visit Malaysia every year and that it is a multi-cultural, predominantly Muslim country.
It recommends getting comprehensive travel and medical insurance before travelling there and to contact the British Consul should any problems arise during a visit.
