Las Vegas 'number one with UK gamblers'

Such is the assertion of Chris Marais, editor of Total Gambler, who reports that the US city continues to be the most sought-after long-haul option for these kind of travellers, despite the increasing popularity of the Chinese destination of Macau.
He said: "Macau is definitely an option but Vegas is closer, there's no language barrier and the dollar is very cheap as well."
Mr Marais went on to report that Las Vegas has a number of attractions aside from gambling which also prove to be popular with tourists, such as excursions to the Grand Canyon and the Hoover Dam.
It was also indicated that the city hosts a number of shows and sporting events, whereas Macau is currently "just a gambling centre".
Such news might be of interest to those with travel industry jobs.
Comments by Mr Marais come after figures from the Las Vegas Visitors and Convention Authority show 39.2 million people visited the Nevadan city last year, an increase of 0.7 per cent from 2006.
