Iceland travel prices thawing
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs. The costs of services for foreign visitors to Iceland are now at least 50 per cent cheaper than they were at the beginning of the year, one sector commentator has claimed.
People seeking a travel agency job may be interested to hear that Maria Reynisdottir, assistant project manager for Visit Reykjavik, has said that the country was previously considered quite an expensive holiday destination.
She added that the prices of hotel accommodation, tours, meals at restaurants and other tourist products and services had all now fallen in cost.
"The airlines are offering special deals now - often with shopping themes as Reykjavík has become a hot spot for shopping," Ms Reynisdottir said, adding that as a result consumer spending in Iceland had increased.
According to Global Property Guide, non-resident individuals are taxed on their Icelandic-sourced income and are allowed the same deductions and credits as residents.
In addition, Statistics Iceland notes that the number of foreign tourists visiting Iceland in 2007 was 485,000 compared with 303,000 in 2000.
