Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs.Britons who go on holiday over the festive season still want to have a feeling of home, according to one sector commentator.
Those seeking travel agency employment may be interested to hear that a spokesperson for the Association of Independent Tour Operators said that destinations such as the Caribbean had hot sandy beaches and great hotels but still provided a "traditional British feel".
He added that the Middle East and some cities in South Africa were also proving to be popular holiday choices for Britons, with certain towns still feeling reminiscent of the UK.
"Even though we're away from home, people still want the feeling of home," the representative noted.
According to October statistics from the Office of National Statistics, between June and August 2008, visits by UK residents to Europe increased by one per cent to 55.6 million, travel to North America increased by one per cent to 4.8 million and tourism to other parts of the world rose by three per cent to 10.0 million.
