Holidays viewed 'as a necessity'
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs.Britons are showing a determination to go on holiday.
Such is the assertion of Sean Tipton, spokesperson for the Association of British Travel Agents, who reports that despite the ongoing effects of the credit crunch people view a foreign vacation as something which is crucial.
He said: "Bookings for this summer have been very healthy. It is fairly clear that 30 years ago a foreign holiday was regarded as luxury.
"It is now seen by the vast majority of our customers as a necessity."
The rise in package holidays since the 1960s and the consistently good weather guaranteed in Mediterranean countries were cited as reasons consumers think a holiday is important.
Such news may be of interest to those with travel agent jobs.
Mr Tipton's comments come after findings from the World Tourism Organization revealed that the first four months of this year saw international tourism levels rise by about five per cent.
