Holidays 'still important despite credit crunch'
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs.People are prepared to make spending reductions in order to go away on holiday, new research shows.
Findings by Lastminute.com reveal that a quarter of Britons state they are budgeting and cutting back on nights out in a bid to afford a break.
Meanwhile, over a quarter of respondents state to be wiling to travel via inconvenient connecting flights to make going away more cost-effective than going direct, TravelMole reports.
John Bevan, managing director for Lastminute.com, said: "In these troubled economic times, our research shows that holidays are more important than ever."
He added that although there has been an attitude adjustment in recent years towards going away "booking holidays is still the main way Britons brighten up their lives".
The study could be of interest to those with travel agent jobs.
In addition, the study showed that 23 per cent of people claim to be looking for more adventure with their travel experiences and feel bored by the traditional package holiday.
Speaking in recent days, Derek Moore, chairman for the Association of Independent Tour Operators, claimed that older people are beginning to expand their holiday horizons and are looking to go to countries such as South Africa, New Zealand and Australia.
