Holidaymakers 'looking to breaks outside of euro zone'
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs. The weakness of the pound against the euro is causing a change in the destinations where people want to go on holiday.
Such is the assertion of Cheapflights, which reported that the high cost of the continental currency has seen previously popular destinations such as Dublin, Paphos, Paris and Majorca drop out of the firm's ten most searched locations for flights.
It was also reported that there has been a fall in interest of those looking to travel to London by air.
However, in news that might interest travel agents, it was revealed Bangkok and the Turkish city of Dalaman are increasingly being sought out, as are New York and Orlando.
Chris Cuddy, chief executive officer of Cheapflights, claimed that although a significant number of Britons are seeking breaks to countries which they have previously holidayed, it was reported a "definite trend appears to be emerging for alternative vacation destinations".
He added: "Non-euro places with a lower cost of living index seem to be gaining in popularity as well as the value for money USA."
Meanwhile, Bob Atkinson, travel expert for travelsupermarket.com, recently claimed that the rising cost of oil is causing a fall in the number of Britons going on short city breaks.
