Expert claims fewer people are going on short breaks
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs.Short breaks in foreign cities are becoming less popular among holidaymakers, it has been reported.
According to Bob Atkinson, travel expert for travelsupermarket.com, rising petrol costs and the impact of the credit crunch means that fewer people are considering going for a short holiday to a foreign country.
He said: "Short city breaks were quite cheap before, but now with the cost of fuel and therefore flying being higher, these breaks are not as attractive as they previously seemed."
However, Mr Atkinson claimed that there is still a determination among Britons to go on their main annual holiday despite an overall rise in prices as they want to "get away and relax".
Such news might be of interest to those working as travel agents.
In a recent study by kayak.co.uk, it was revealed that 90 per cent of Britons view going on holiday at least once a year as being one of the most important things which determines whether or not they are happy.
