Domestic breaks 'continue to be in demand'
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs.Domestic holidays are becoming increasingly popular among Britons, a number of tour operators have claimed.
Bourne Leisure - which operates the ¬Warner Breaks, Butlins and Haven Holidays brands - has reported that as sales continue to rise, accommodation at the resorts are approaching reaching maximum capacity.
Over the course of last week, it was revealed that sales at Warner Breaks were up by 44 per cent from the same period in 2007, TravelWeekly reported.
The rise was partially attributed to those with travel agent jobs, as Bourne Leisure marketing manager Jenny Redfern claimed that "there seems to be a lot of activity on the high street".
Ian Mounser, sales director at Superbreak, pointed out that the tour operator has seen a persistent demand for holidays within Britain over recent months, with sales up by between five and ten per cent.
Mr Mounser said: "Domestic breaks are very easy to buy at the last minute and in times of uncertainty people defer their decision-making until it's quite late."
Speaking earlier this month, Richard Carrick, head of Hosesasons, claimed that travel agents should focus on selling breaks within Britain.
