Brits 'willing to fund holiday by dipping into savings'
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs.A significant proportion of holidaymakers are prepared to finance their break by raiding their savings accounts, a new study shows.
In research carried out by Abbey Savings, it was revealed that just under two-thirds (62 per cent) of people use money which they have squirreled away to pay for a vacation.
And in news that might be of interest to those with travel agent jobs, it was indicated that the typical Briton is spending 10.1 per cent of their annual income on a holiday.
Such expenditure was shown to stand for £1,650 per person, meaning total spending on holidays by UK adults comes to £81 billion.
Meanwhile, a third of respondents believe that going on an expensive holiday is one of their three most important priorities in life.
Speaking earlier this month, Tom Hall - travel editor at Lonely Planet - stated that many Britons view going away on holiday as being a "non-negotiable thing".
