Brits 'show determination to fly'
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs.Despite the downturn being experienced in the wider financial sector, there is a still determination among Britons to go on a holiday abroad.
Such is the assertion of James Fremantle, industry affairs manager at the Air Transport Users Council (ATUC), who claimed that although air travel might be one of the areas people cut back on during a recession, this has yet to take place.
He said: "Some tour operators are actually reporting pretty good numbers, so it looks as if people are just downgrading their holidays."
Mr Fremantle added that as Britons are still going abroad many are now choosing to go on cheaper package holiday deals.
The ATUC manager also reported that a low proportion of air travellers are making use of carbon offsetting schemes when flying, although such numbers are beginning to increase.
Such news might be of interest to those with jobs in the travel industry.
The Association of British Travel Agents recently revealed that more than two million holidaymakers flew out of UK airports last weekend as the summer holiday season began.
