Brits 'determined to go away despite economic downturn'
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs.Consumers seem to be determined to go on holiday despite the current downturn in the financial markets, it has been reported.
In research carried out by Avail Intelligence it was revealed that that some 57 per cent of Britons reported that their plans will not change although the credit crunch continues to make its presence felt.
And in news that might be of interest to those working in the travel industry, it was stated that 17 per cent of respondents are actually set to increase their expenditure this year.
Meanwhile the same proportion of people claimed that spending on luxury areas - such as holidays, fashion and electronic items - could fall.
Rolf Elmer, chief executive for Avail Intelligence, said: "There's been so much speculation about consumer spending and the credit crunch - so it's interesting to see that luxury items are still such a priority."
Last week alpharooms.com reported that during the current financial climate a significant number of Britons are looking to cut back on their day-to-day expenditure to finance going on holiday rather than give up their break altogether.
