Beijing Olympic stars 'to drive domestic tourism'
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs. The likes of Rebecca Adlington and Chris Hoy could be set to drive domestic tourism, it has been reported.
According to James Bidwell, chief executive of VisitLondon, the success of Britain's athletes at the current Olympics in Beijing will help increase the number of people who choose to travel to the capital in 2012.
He said: "These results will only energise the British public ahead of our own London games in 2012."
Mr Bidwell added that as the majority of spectators at the 2012 event will be British, the recent good performances "will help us to deliver the 2012 tourism legacy", in news that may be of interest to those with jobs in the travel industry.
In addition, it was revealed that tourism in the capital is worth over £16 billion and supports a total of 250,000 full-time jobs.
Speaking earlier this month, economist Sherman Chan reported that the Beijing games will help improve tourism to China following a number of improvements in long-term infrastructure, such as recreational venues and airport facilities, to support the event.
