Asia Pacific 'more popular among travellers'
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs.An increasing number of international tourists are travelling to the Asia Pacific region, new figures show.
Data released by the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) reveals that in particular south-east Asia has become more popular as during the first six months of this year arrivals to Thailand were up by 14.4 per cent in comparison to the same period in 2007.
Meanwhile, visit numbers to Bali and Cambodia have seen increases of 24 and 12.8 per cent respectively.
Ian Hawkes, executive director of the UK chapter of PATA, said: "We are in a tougher economic climate but anecdotal evidence suggests people are continuing to travel but are being much more considered in their decision-making."
Figures from the association show that arrivals in New Zealand have risen by 1.2 per cent and - in news that might interest travel agents - visitor levels to Bhutan are up 32.2 per cent.
Earlier this year Frances Tuke, spokesperson for the Association of British Travel Agents, reported that Dubai is one of the most attractive destinations for luxury travellers.
