Air industry looks to a greener future
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs.Industry insiders who have gathered for the 60th Farnborough International Air Show have all had one thing on the mind today (July 14th): fuel.
With global oil prices hitting $140 (£70.52) a barrel, the stream of new aircraft orders has been down, the BBC reports.
However, industry commentators have speculated that the sector may now turn its attentions further to environmental implementations in air travel.
BGC Partners strategist Howard Wheeldon told the news corporation: "The only way out is to ensure aircraft are more fuel efficient."
This could include searching for a more lightweight material to build aircraft with, making it more energy efficient and locating alternative energy sources.
In related news that may be of interest to people looking for jobs in travel, Ben Challis, co-founder and a director of AGreenerfestival.com, has suggested that the environmental impact of music events is reduced by the fuel and electricity sharing amongst festival goers.
