72-hour early permission for US travel
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs. Those with travel and tourism jobs may now have to advise people that they will need to apply for permission to enter the US 72 hours in advance.
According to online resource TravelMole, airlines are set to be required to comply with the Electronic System for Travel Authorisation, which will become mandatory from January 12th 2009.
This means travellers - whether it be for business or pleasure - will have to provide information including their name, date of birth, passport details, flight number and destination address three days before they fly out.
Further to this, personal and travel details will also be required when booking under Advanced Passenger Information rules.
The new legislation has been brought in to allow the US Department of Homeland Security to assess whether an individual is eligible to travel in the country before they arrive.
Meanwhile, those planning on heading to the US for a winter sports break may be interested to learn that TravelMole reports many ski resorts are set to open early following heavy snow falls.
