UK 'not ready' for mobile bookings
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs.Britons are not yet ready to make mobile phone vacation bookings their primary method of securing a holiday, new research has found, which may increase the need for travel agents jobs.
According to online resource TravelMole, delegates at World Travel Market have been told that holiday firms need to improve their customer service and focus on handset technology.
Gerry Samuels, founder and executive director at Mobile Travel Technologies, told delegates at an EyeforTravel seminar that citizens of developing nations were those most likely to be booking a trip on their mobile.
Meanwhile, people in developed nations, such as the UK, were more likely to use their handsets for emailing and searching, but this was something that was set to alter, he added.
"For now the sweet spot in the UK for mobile is improving service levels but this will change pretty soon," Mr Samuels concluded.
Meanwhile, the charity Friends of the Earth has claimed that people need to be encouraged to consider alternative methods of travel to flying.
