Travel agents should be "open all hours"
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs.It is important for travel agents to provide a 24-hour service, it has been suggested.
According to Julia Lo Bue-Said, commercial director of Advantage, claimed that many members of the public may often view travel agents as just operating on the high street.
However, it was stated that those with jobs in the travel industry are increasingly developing their websites to allow customers to purchase holidays at any time of day, Travel Trade Gazette reports.
Simonne Fairbanks, director of trade sales and marketing for Seligo, added: "Every per cent of profit is so important. In a world that now operates 24/7 as a result of consumer lifestyles and requirements it is even more important to be 'open all hours'."
It was also revealed that the accommodation-only supplier has seen a 50 per cent rise in sales during the past 12 months, with this drive attributed to retailers requesting XML feeds in order to provide fully bookable websites.
Meanwhile, government body Train to Gain recently unveiled a scheme offering training programmes and some 50,000 courses aimed at helping to improve the skills of those working in the travel sector.
