Responsible tourism 'should be focus of travel industry'
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs.Those working in the travel industry should consider incorporating responsible tourism as a main part of their business plan.
Such is the suggestion of Fiona Jeffery, chair of the World Travel Market (WTM), who reports that a focus on such breaks may be of particular assistance as the economic climate continues to decline.
Ms Jeffery said: "It's untrue that responsible tourism cannot help companies to achieve a good financial return."
She went on to report that although generating profits from this kind of vacation can be "the new way forward" for the industry a significant number of travel agents and tour operators shun doing so due to "fear of embarrassment."
The chair's comments come ahead of WTM's World Responsible Tourism Day which takes place on November 12th.
Last month VisitScotland launched Going Green - a new initiative giving advice to people with travel industry jobs on how to become more environmentally-friendly in their working practices.
