Investment in training made for travel sector
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs.A multimillion pound investment is to be made into training those with travel and tourism jobs, it has been revealed.
In a grant to be issued via government body Train to Gain, relevant qualifications in relation to the travel sector will be developed with access to some 50,000 short courses to be made available, Travel Weekly reports.
Meanwhile, the scheme will also look to make it easier for travel agent and tour operator employers to apply for funding to help boost the skills set of their staff.
Overall, some £112 million is to be ploughed into qualifications and training schemes for those with travel industry jobs.
Vicki Wolf, education liaison executive for the Association of British Travel Agents, said: "It's a fallacy that the travel industry doesn't invest in training - it has just been hard to access."
Meanwhile, Beverley Platt, managing partner at Training for Travel, stated that the announcement is "great news".
In related news, Triton director Andrew Botterill recently stated that high street travel agents should make use of multi-channel sales strategies in order to remain competitive within the industry.
