Industrial action threat at Eurostar
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs.Eurostar is facing an industrial action threat in the run-up to the festive season but has claimed that it will attempt to ensure people's travel plans are not disrupted, news which those with travel agency employment may wish to advise their clients on.
According to online resource TravelMole, a ballot by the RMT and TSSA unions has been submitted on behalf of Eurostar UK train managers over a dispute about work rosters.
The group has claimed that it has met with unions and discussions are continuing over resolving the issue.
A statement by Eurostar notes that the rosters were introduced as a result of the amended timetable that followed an incident at the Channel Tunnel in September and that the changes fully meet the conditions of managers' contracts.
Customer services director Marc Noaro said: "We are extremely disappointed that our UK train managers have decided on this course of action and at this time and we will make every effort to ensure our travellers face no further disruption."
Meanwhile, Hogg Robinson Group has recorded a pre-tax profits rise of almost a quarter to £6.1 million in the six months leading up to September, due to a boost by business travellers.
