Hotel prices 'increasing'
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs.Hotel prices in the UK are being pushed up by the weakening pound, one sector commentator has claimed, in news which may be of interest to those with jobs in the travel industry.
Sian Williams, country manager for trivago UK, said that if sterling was performing very badly then the result would be that prices would be pushed up.
However, she added that consumers should also expect prices to increase slightly anyway as hotels often raised their tariffs in time for the summer.
"We have wait until after the summer to see whether hotel prices are going to go down again [to the] same as the previous year," Ms Williams stated, adding that she believed they would increase over the summer and then decrease when early autumn arrived.
According to the trivago Hotel Price Index, an overnight stay in a standard double room costs on average £107 in May, a 15 per cent increase in comparison to last year.
