Flying away from green concerns
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs.Holidaymakers are continuing to fly, despite the growing number of reports into its effects on the environment.
Online resource TravelMole reports that YouGov research, conducted on behalf of Camcon Technology, found that although 74 per cent of people admitted they were concerned about the effects of flying on climate change, noise and air pollution flying had, only 22 per cent of respondents said they were reducing the number of flights they took as a result.
In addition, 54 per cent revealed they were not concerned about the expansion plans at Heathrow airport that may see a third runway being built.
Camcon chief executive officer Danny Chapchal said: "The majority of the UK population is evidently concerned about the environment but, rather than altering their travelling habits, people expect airline operators and aircraft manufacturers to reduce aviation's environmental impact."
He added that the sector needed to examine technologies which could reduce carbon emissions while also decreasing noise.
Meanwhile, an online guide - Makesnowsportsgreener.com - has been launched to urge ski companies and resorts to become more energy and cost-efficient.
