Demand for package breaks 'is stable'
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs.Package holidays continue to be sought-after by British tourists, a new report shows.
In research carried out by Mintel and commissioned by TUI Travel, it was revealed that some 42 per cent of holidaymakers who went abroad in the year leading up to last June did so exclusively via a package break, with 47 per cent only going away on a vacation they had organised independently, Travel Weekly reports.
The remaining 11 per cent were shown to have holidayed using both ways of booking a vacation during the 12-month period.
As such, a total of 53 per cent of people were shown to have gone on at least one package holiday.
Dermot Blastland, managing director of TUI Travel, said: "We think the package holiday is very robust and the market is actually stable and not declining."
In fact, he claimed that there could be even more people going on package holidays than the research suggests.
Such news might be of interest to those working as travel agents.
Earlier this month, Bob Atkinson, travel expert for Travelsupermarket.com, reported that an increasing number of Britons are seeking all-inclusive vacations in an attempt to make their money go further during the current economic downturn.
