Brits 'may opt for more short-haul breaks'
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs. The continued difficulties in the UK economic sector could have an impact on the long-haul leisure travel sector, a number of industry experts have reported.
According to John McEwan, chief executive at Advantage Travel Centre, should oil prices remain high and the financial market continue to plummet, the amount of disposable income Brits have to spend on a holiday could fall.
This, he claimed, may see consumers opting to go on breaks which are more affordable and are closer to home.
It was reported that more people are going on a ten-night vacation as opposed to the traditional two-week getaway.
Such news may be of interest to those with travel agent jobs.
Meanwhile, Peter Brown, chief executive at Monarch Airlines, stated that airlines might make use of larger planes to increase passenger capacity to short-haul holiday destinations.
Speaking earlier this month, Ian Rumgay, European communications manager for TripAdvisor, reported that many Britons are still looking to enjoy a holiday abroad despite the impact that the credit crunch is having on their finances.
