Britons 'should double check travel cover'
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs. Those with jobs in the travel industry may wish to advise their customers to double check all the details of their travel insurance policies, following the advice of one sector commentator.
Malcolm Tarring, spokesperson for the Association of British Insurers, explained that some policies would cover a holidaymaker if they cancelled their break following advice given to them by the government, for example, as a result of the recent swine flu outbreak.
He added that recommendations by other health agencies such as the World Health Organisation may also be taken into account.
"But if you decide not to travel to a particular country and there is no specific government advice then the insurance is not there to provide compensation," Mr Tarling warned.
By double checking an insurance policy, holidaymakers would be able to know exactly what they are covered for, he concluded.
The number of travel insurance policies sold by InsureandGo has increased by 49 per cent, the group notes, as people are concerned that swine flu could take a serious hold in countries other than Mexico and prevent them from going on holiday.
