Britons 'appreciate holidays at home'
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs. There is a growing appreciation among many Britons for holidaying at home, according to one sector commentator, which may convince those working in the travel industry to focus on domestic breaks.
Marketing director at self-catering holiday specialist Hoseasons Tim Fullam said that this trend had grown over the last three to four years as the quality of domestic getaways improved.
He added that this had made a "real difference" to the way people viewed British breaks.
"Recently there has been the Met Office predicting the UK's barbeque summer and that has been the icing on the cake for what was already quite a dramatic trend towards UK holidays this year," Mr Fullam noted.
Furthermore, the credit crunch was causing many people to think twice about taking a break in the eurozone, he stated.
According to travelsupermarket.com, Pontins has seen a 20 per cent increase in bookings compared to last year, while Butlins has noted a 15 per cent increase.
