Agents 'should take advantage of staycation trend'
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs. The holidaymaker trend of opting for a domestic holiday could provide opportunities for those working as travel agents to increase booking levels over the summer months.
Such is the assertion of Ian Mounser, sales director of Superbreak, who states that as so-called 'staycations' are set to rise in popularity those in the travel industry should be conscious of this trend and put in the extra work to make sales.
He told Travel Weekly: "As families tighten their belts it is likely that we may see more and more people opting to take breaks on home turf and I expect the staycationing trend to continue for the rest of the summer and into the autumn."
Mr Mounser's comments come after it was revealed that domestic leisure breaks to the value of some £1.2 million were booked by travel agents through SUperbreak in the seven-day period ending July 27th.
Such a figure represents an increase of four per cent from the same week in 2007.
In other news, recent research from Cheapflights indicated that the weakness of the pound is causing more Britons to seek breaks to locations outside of the euro zone.
