'Working together required' for sustainable travel
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs.It is important for those with travel industry jobs to work together in the provision of sustainable and responsible tourism.
Such is the assertion of Andy Cooper, head of business development for the Association of British Travel Agents, who claimed that the sector should do more assist with environmentally-friendly travel.
Mr Cooper said: "There is a lot the industry can - and should - do to push the case for more sustainable tourism but only two per cent of global emissions come from aviation."
He added that the creation of a third runway at Heathrow could help to reduce carbon emission as planes would not have to continually circle the airport - and in the process waste fuel - while waiting to land, Travel Weekly reports.
Meanwhile, Mike Greenacre, managing director of Co-operative Travel, reported that tour operators and travel agents should work together to meet common goals across the industry on supporting sustainable travel.
A recent study by Ethical Traveler revealed that the most sought-after destinations for responsible travel include Croatia, Bulgaria, Chile and Estonia.
