'More Brits budgeting when purchasing holidays'
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs.Although volumes of holiday sales continue to be robust, the impact of the credit crunch is causing Britons to be increasingly careful with how they spend their money, it has been reported.
In a debate held by TravelMole and YouTravel a number of industry experts have reported that travel agents are finding holidaymakers are sticking to tight budgets when booking their break.
Ben Braude, sales director for Fleetways Travel, said: "People are refusing to spend even an extra £10 now.
"When they come to us with a budget of £300 and we ask if they can squeeze it to £350 the answer is a definite 'no'."
He went on to report that the majority of bookings the firm is receiving are for all-inclusive breaks, as this allows holidaymakers to track the exact amount of money which they are spending.
Meanwhile, Kane Pirie, managing director at Travel Republic, reported that although there is little sign that people are giving up their annual holiday because of the continued difficulties in the financial markets, consumers are starting to tighten their belts when it comes to how much money they spend on going away.
Earlier this month, John McEwan, Advantage chief executive, claimed that due to rising fuel costs and currency exchange weaknesses, the cost of vacations is set to rise by about ten per cent, meaning it will become more important for travel agents to work hard in order to get customers to book holidays.
