Passengers up at Dover
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs. The number of passengers travelling through the port of Dover has increased in recent times, it has been revealed.
Following the fire in the Channel Tunnel, there has been an increase in the number of holidaymakers and cargo transporters opting to use the ferry to get to mainland Europe, public relations and marketing manager at the port of Dover Keith Southey said.
The news, which may be of interest to those working in the travel industry, suggests that the port remains an important link to the continent.
"Ferry travel between the UK and continental Europe has always been popular but the fire in the Channel Tunnel has highlighted the need for the port of Dover to provide sufficient capacity to keep all the traffic moving," said Mr Southey.
He added that there was a "significant" rise in use of the port following the fire earlier this month.
There was a 24.9 per cent rise in the number of passengers using the port from the week before the fire to the week after the fire, the port of Dover figures reveal.
