Cruise industry 'gaining strength'
For more permanent travel consultant jobs in the travel industry, visit our latest jobs page.The UK cruise sector is continuing to gain strength and has become the fastest growing travel industry at present - positive news for those working in the travel consultant sector.
Fiona Jeffery, chairman of the World Travel Market, said despite the economic downturn having a detrimental impact on many areas of travel, across the UK, more people have turned to cruising in recent months as a way of escaping the doom and gloom.
She commented: "Even in the current uncertain financial times, the cruise industry has flourished, with a host of new ships coming on the UK market; eight have started sailing this year and a further ten are scheduled for 2010."
According to the Passenger Shipping Association, 1.65 million passengers are forecast to take a cruise in 2010 - up by 6.5 per cent in comparison to this year's figures.
