CWT reveals sales rise
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs.Carlson Wagonlit Travel (CWT) has reported a surge in sales volumes during the first half of this year, it has been revealed.
In figures released by the travel management company, global sales for the first six months of 2008 stood at $15 billion (£8.3 billion), with this figure representing an increase of some 16 per cent from the equivalent period in 2007.
During this period of time, CWT was also revealed to have brought onboard Schneider Electric and Michelin as new clients.
There was said to be particular sales growth in Latin America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
However, Douglas Anderson, chief executive of CWT, claimed that despite a period of "continued growth" for the travel management sector, the industry now faces difficulties due to the current economic decline.
Mr Anderson claimed that although business travel "will remain a necessity", corporate clients will increasingly be looking for returns on their investment.
Such news might be of interest to those with business travel jobs.
Last month, Virgin Atlantic revealed that the number of business travellers on its premium class routes increased by 22 per cent during the 2007-08 financial year.
