Cheapest flights 'avoided by business travellers'
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs. Business travellers are beginning to avoid booking the cheapest flights available, a new study has shown.
Research by Hogg Robinson Group, revealed that corporate travellers are shunning some of the lowest-cost air fares available due to the fees which are charged should the business cancel the journey.
Instead businesses are opting with flexible fares - which do not implement fees in the event of cancellation - and sticking with preferred carriers in a bid to make sure certain routes are not shut down.
Such news might interest those with business travel jobs.
Stewart Harvey, director of client management at the firm, said: "There is closer scrutiny as to whether travel is necessary and companies are paying more attention to the reason behind a trip."
He added that flights to the United States in particular have been affected by a decline in business travel due to the current economic downturn.
Earlier this month research carried out by Bibby Financial Services showed that the majority of firms in the financial services sector are taking the environment into account when managing their business travel policy.
