Businesses 'look to make corporate travel more cost-effective'
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs. The impact of the financial downturn is weighing upon the business travel sector, it has been reported.
In research carried out by the Business Travel Coalition it was shown that some 19 per cent of corporate travel managers questioned claim to have cut down on corporate travel in recent months.
As such, it was shown that a significant number of companies are now getting their staff to use a lower class of travel and cheaper hotels, Travel Mole reports.
In a bid to reduce commercial travel expenditure, it was also revealed that some businesses are now looking to travel by train where previously they would have done so by air as well as making trips during the day to cut down on overnight stays.
However, it was pointed out that "many corporations are still monitoring the situation and have yet to make travel policy decisions".
The news might be of interest to those people with business travel jobs.
Earlier this month, Martin Cowley, head of Sabre Travel Network EMEA, reported that the deregulation of rail transport will result in trains playing an increasingly large role in the business travel industry.
