BA-Iberia merger 'good news for travellers'
For more permanent business travel jobs in the travel industry, visit our latest jobs page. The merger of British Airways (BA) and Iberia could be good news for travellers and those looking for business travel jobs.
Frances Tuke, spokesperson for ABTA - The Travel Association, said the initial agreement between the two firms is good news for UK holidaymakers as the deal will help to increase the number of routes operated by BA out of Heathrow - increasing the firm's take off and landing slots to 44 per cent at the airport.
She commented: "BA and Iberia have been struggling in the current economic climate. The synergy of having the two together making the whole entity stronger will only be a good thing for customers."
According to the BA annual report published earlier this month, the carrier will hold a 55 per cent stake in the new company with Iberia holding 45 per cent.
The merger, which is expected to get regulatory backing and be concluded by the end of next year, is set to create the world's third largest airline.
