Travel agents 'not affected by credit crunch'
Travel industry news brought to you by C & M Recruitment, specialists in business travel jobs.Agents in both the business and leisure travel sectors are confident about the future of their firms despite the difficulties experienced in the wider financial markets, a new study suggests.
In figures released by Amadeus, it was revealed that 44 per cent of business travel agents believe that the credit crunch did not impact upon booking levels over the course of March, with 29 per cent of agents in the leisure industry claiming to not be affected.
Amadeus director of marketing Elaine Seeto stated: "It is heartening that confidence remains high among the travel agency community despite the doom and gloom of recent headlines."
Ms Seeto also reported that significant numbers of travel agents are looking to diversify their revenue streams.
The study also showed that about a third of business agents believe the downturn in the United States' economy is impacting on Britain and as such is having an impact upon their business.
However, booking levels for such respondents were only show to be down by between five and nine per cent.
Just over one in three leisure travel agents reported that their outlook for the next three months was unchanged compared to the same time in 2007.
Earlier this month, TravelWeekly reported that travel agents and tour operators are coming under increasing demand for transport to and accommodation in Moscow ahead of the Champions League final between Chelsea and Manchester United.
