'Bumper period' at East Midlands Airport
East Midlands Airport is reporting a "bumper holiday period" thanks to the number of travellers boarding its flights last month. In news which may be of interest to those with travel industry jobs, the facility reveals a 19.2 per cent increase in passenger numbers in February, compared with the previous year.
However, the airport notes that this includes traffic from the extra day created by virtue of 2008 being a leap year.
The data observes a 12.6 per cent growth in domestic passengers and 18.7 per cent higher figures for those travelling overseas.
East Midlands Airport adds that it "experienced a significant increase in passengers who benefited from the destinations operated by low-cost carriers".
In related news which could impact workers with travel industry jobs, next week sees the scheduled end of development work near East Midlands Airport.
The organisation explains that, since March 10th, the A42 has been closed at the bridge over the M1 on weekday nights, which may have caused increases in journey times to the airport.
